Dr. Andrew McCoy - Virginia Tech Teacher of the Week

The Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) recognizes Andrew McCoy, associate professor of Building Construction, for promoting better learning outcomes for students by integrating his professional experience into instructional approaches, stimulating students to conduct authentic self-directed and team-based research and learning similar to the professional environment.

2013 Capstone Winners

The Spring 2013 Design / Build Senior Capstone Project took place Friday, April 26 2013 in Bishop-Favrao Hall. The project summary involved a a two-module, Type-I Hanger, seven story air traffic control tower (including demolishing of existing tower), and airfield improvements (including a compass rose and helicopter wash) at the Naval Station in Norfolk Virginia.

 

Building Construction Professor Receives Numerous Awards

Dr. McCoyDr. McCoyDr. McCoy has been selected as one of the Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research's (CIDER) Teachers of the Week and will be recognized the week of May 13th on University websites. He is also the recipient of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Exemplary Faculty Award for the Department of Building Construction in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction and has just received the 2013 Department of Building Construction's Outstanding Young Alumni Award for early career achievement. First Year Experiences - Solidifying Building Construction

Thomas Mills - associate professor in the Department of Building Construction in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies - wants students to build two things in his Pathways to Success course: their knowledge of how to design, plan, and build as well as reflect upon themselves as students and future industry leaders.
