Department Head Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Building Construction (BC) at Virginia Tech. As the new department head, I am pleased to share of the growth, development, research, and enrichment occuring this year. During my 6 years as a professor in this deparment, I have seen the programs grow from a class of 30 students to now advising 350 undergraduate majors, 50 minors, 35 graduate students, 4 PhD candidates - and growing. With the support and commitment of our dedicated alumni, and fundrasing campaign, our department is proud to have a new building, Bishop-Favrao Hall, to call all our own.

Some highlights about our department include our study abroad program to Spain/Portugal and to alumni trip to Egypt. Click here to learn more. We have a 100% placement rate of for internships seekers, full-time employment, or admittance into graduate programs. Students benefit from a fall and spring Construction Career Fair yeilding over 90 top employers from around the country.

The construction industry embraces our students in enriching opportunities such as internships, field trips, guest lectures, panel discussions, and scholarships.The construction industry is a breeding ground for research and innovation. The Department of Building Construction hosts key programs to facilitate the learning and experiencing of the most cutting edge construction practices.
