Students in BC Intro class work to beautify Roanoke County

Trash Coverings, a dumpster pad, and work on a cabin are three of the projects completed this summer by the 25 students enrolled in Summer Session I BC 1214.

Most students taking the class are undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Building Construction, but one student took the class as an elective and says, "I have never built anything in my life. Now I know how to use tools and build things."

Students in the group building the trash coverings were asked to make 30 bins. The group was so efficient that they completed 43! Roanoke County Parks and Recreation was so appreciative to have the help.

The dumpster pad was a project that the County had wanted to complete for over 3 years.

The cabin project was also overdue as the camp director who will use the cabin had been staying in the dorms with the campers all year.

The experience was rewarding for students as well as important to the community.
